I took the Sofia tour after I had been on the Buzludzha tour a couple of days earlier. I was fascinated by the insight into life under Communism that nvision travel had provided, and I wanted more! The tour took me around the main communist sights within the city of Sofia, with a great insight into each of the monuments provided by Tsveti, my guide for the tour.

The Museum of Socialist Art, located in the outskirts of the city, showed a different side to life under Communism. There was also a great film with plenty of archive footage showing how the streets I’d walked just a few hours earlier had looked during the Communist times.

The visit to the Bells Monument provided a fittingly peaceful end to the main tour. Seeing bells donated by countries that no longer exist (particularly some of the old communist countries) was strangely moving. We finished with a lunch at a great retro Communist restaurant. It was the perfect way to finish my first trip to Bulgaria.

I enjoyed myself so much, I went back to the country and did another tour with nvision travel just a few months later…
