Rhodope Mountains tour

We invite you to take part in this travel experience and feel the mystical Rhodope Mountains, home of Orpheus.

Day 1: Sofia – Plovdiv

Pick up from Sofia airport or your accommodation in Sofia. Departure to Plovdiv. After 2 hour drive we will arrive in the second largest city in Bulgaria. Sightseeing of the old town of Plovdiv. Walking tour with visit to the Roman theater and stop for lunch or beer/glass of wine in Kapana art district. Doing aylyak = doing nothing is the local vibe. The rest of the day is for enjoying the city. Overnight in Plovdiv.

Day 2: Plovdiv – Asenovgrad – Bachkovo monastery – Kosovo village

After breakfast departure to the mystical Rhodope Mountains, home of Orpheus. Asenovgrad is famous with the many wedding shops and Bachkovo monastery is the second largest monastery in Bulgaria. We could stop there on the way to Kosovo village or if you prefer, we could spend more time in Plovdiv. Overnight in a traditional Bulgarian guest house in Rhodope Mountains with homemade breakfast, made by the owner Svetlana.

Day 3: Kosovo village – Belintash (hiking to the ancient Thracian sanctuary) – Kosovo village

Today we will feel the mystical energy of Rhodope Mountains. An easy walk will bring us to a special energy place Belintash. We will have time to sit in silence and listen to our inner voice, meditate and look from above the area around us. This will give us opportunity to connect with nature and bring back the harmony in our life. The site had been studied during the 1980s by a team of Bulgarian archaeo-astronomers. According to them the plateau was a sanctuary used by ancient Thracians as well as a solar observatory – to satisfy the needs of certain agricultural and religious activities of society at the time. Overnight in Kosovo village.

Day 4: Kosovo village – The Wonder Bridges – Shiroka laka village – Kosovo village

The Wonder Bridges have been caves in the past. There used to be a river going via them many years ago. They are located in the karst valley of the Erkyupriya River at 1,450 metres (4,760 ft) above sea level. After the sightseeing of the nature phenomena we will visit Shiroka Luka. Shiroka Laka is famous for its authentic Rhodopean houses set in tiers on both banks of the local river but also for its singing tradition and the kaba gaida, a local type of bagpipe. Some of the most prominent singers of Rhodopean music are born there.  A secondary school for folklore songs and instruments was founded in 1972. Free time for lunch and sightseeing. Overnight in Kosovo village.

Day 5: Kosovo village – Sofia, sightseeing of Sofia

After breakfast departure to Sofia. It is up to you if you prefer to spend more time in Kosovo village and the area or to have time for sightseeing in Sofia. Overnight in Sofia. End of the travel services.
