Tour Reviews
I took the Sofia tour after I had been on the Buzludzha tour a couple of days earlier. I was fascinated by the insight into life under Communism that nvision travel had provided, and I wanted more! The tour took me around the main communist sights within the city of Sofia, with a great insight into each of the monuments provided by Tsveti, my guide for the tour.
The Museum of Socialist Art, located in the outskirts of the city, showed a different side to life under Communism. There was also a great film with plenty of archive footage showing how the streets I’d walked just a few hours earlier had looked during the Communist times.
The visit to the Bells Monument provided a fittingly peaceful end to the main tour. Seeing bells donated by countries that no longer exist (particularly some of the old communist countries) was strangely moving. We finished with a lunch at a great retro Communist restaurant. It was the perfect way to finish my first trip to Bulgaria.
I enjoyed myself so much, I went back to the country and did another tour with nvision travel just a few months later…
Had the most fun with Betty on the Communist Tour!
She is very knowledgeable, friendly, and warm. She answered all of my questions too!
One of the reasons for my visit to Bulgaria was to see evidence of its communist past. I had to decide between Nvision’s communist tour and another tour that was a walking tour downtown. I was so happy I chose the Nvision tour — because the transportation they provided really allowed us to see much more of the communist past.
From the Soviet Army Monument to the communist-era Palace of Culture, everything was fascinating. However, the highlight for me was the Museum of Socialist Art — where so many artifacts are located together, along with a very interesting video that the museum shows about Bulgaria’s communist past.
Nvision Travel adds many interesting touches to this tour, including lunch in a rooftop restaurant that was where communist party officials dined in the past.
If you are visiting Sofia, add this day-excursion to your itinerary!
