The Rose festival is one of the emblematic celebrations in Bulgaria. The festival is dedicated to beauty and flowers, spring and the aroma of the Bulgarian rose. The festival takes place from the first years of the 20th century until today. In the festive day our Rose valley is full of beauty, positive vibes, dances, songs and rose aroma.

Rose festival in Bulgaria

The celebration begins with Rose picking ritual in the rose fields. Folklore ensembles from the local towns make the experience authentic. Locals in traditional costumes show how to pick the rose petals. Guests are welcomed with round festive bread, roses and geranium.

The new Rose Queen shows up from the fields to receive the crown from the queen last year. The new Queen greets the guests and invites them to pick rose petals from her kingdom. Traditional Bulgarian dance called horo takes place. Everyone holds hands and follows the person in front. Steps are simple to follow, so everyone can participate.

Rose oil

This way we not only took part in the famous Rose festival, but we also helped with the production of the famous rose oil. It is also called the liquid gold of Bulgaria. Later rose oil is used in famous perfumes, in cosmetics or even for making rakia drinks. Next, we will see the process of rose water and rose oil production. We will also taste some rose products (sweets, liqueurs, etc).
